Mrs. Hitch worked at Schulz supermarket in the meat counter and at the check out for many years. She retired from Hook`s and had also worked at Dairy Queen.
She attended Hope United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and cooking Sunday dinners for her family.
She was born March 9, 1928, in Frankfort to William H. and Olive Patchett Gunion. She was the foster daughter of Jesse and Bessie Pollet. She married Kenneth J. Hitch on Dec. 18, 1946, and he survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth `Butch` (Diana) of Colorado, Stephen of Frankfort, Daniel (Cheri) of Boyleston; one sister, Mary Ellen of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, Andrew (Michelle) of Colorado, Dana (Steve) Lamar of Colorado, Matthew (Elaine) of Canada, Cindy (Jeremiah) Pippenger of Frankfort and Tawni, Coty and Jacquelyn Timmons of Boyleston; and five great-grandchildren.
One sister and a brother preceded her in death.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Genda Funeral Home, 608 N. Main St., Frankfort, IN, with Steve Jaggers officiating. Entombment will be in Bunnell Cemetery. Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to donor`s choice of charity.
Helen `Joanne` Hitch, 79, rural Frankfort, IN, died Aug. 19, 2007, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community.
