He served the following United Methodist churches: North Liberty, 1954-59; Grace in Rochester, 1959-64; Gary City, 1964-67; St. Matthew in Frankfort, 1967-1973; Warsaw First, 1973-82; Muncie Gethsemane, 1982-84; and Merrillville, 1984-86.
He was a member of the North Indiana Conference and the Singing Saints, and was a former Kiwanis member. As a Master Gardener, he left Prayer Gardens for all to enjoy. He enjoyed stamps, traveling and reading. He passionately loved his family and always lived to serve others.
He was born April 4, 1924, in Gillett Grove, Iowa, to Ross and Pearl Bargloff Mills. He married Ruth Elizabeth Missal on Sept. 17, 1949, and she died March 11, 1995.
He married Opal Lathrop on May 24, 1997, and she survives. Survivors include his children, Mark (Maxine) of Logansport, IN, and Beckie E.M. Clawson of Elkhart, IN; two stepdaughters, Doris Winans of Fort Wayne, IN and Dorothy (Russell) May of Lans Downe, Va.; one sister, Fay (George) Lanz of Spencer, Iowa; two brothers, Charles (Thelma) of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Kay (Thelma) of Raymore, Mo.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wesley Manor`s Amanda Reid Chapel, 1555 N. Main St, with Pastor Lore Blinn Gibson officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. CST in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City. Calling will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Genda Funeral Home, 608 N. Main St., Frankfort, IN, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the Manor. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of Wesley Manor or the United Methodist Children`s Home in Lebanon.
The Rev. Ray E. Mills, 83, Frankfort, died Aug. 12, 2007, in his home at the Wesley Manor Retirement Community. Rev. Mills was retired from serving as a United Methodist pastor, 1951-86. He then was a Minister of Visitation in Michigan City, IN.
