Mrs. McClain was co-valedictorian when she graduated from Van Buren Township High School in May 1948. She received a bachelor`s degree in 1952 and a master`s degree in 1953 from Indiana State Teacher`s College. She taught one year in the Frankfort school system, 1953-54, serving as a speech and hearing therapist. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority.
She was born May 27, 1930, in Carbon to John Robert and Fay Tribble Egloff. She married John McClain on July 7, 1954, and immediately became the mother of three boys. Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2003.
Surviving are three daughters, Karen Ilene (Greg) Miller of Frankfort, Suzanne Lynette Taylor of Nome, Alaska, and Julia Kay (Eric) Zurschmiede of Frankfort; three sons, Roger Addison (Sue) of Frankfort, John Kelly (Sara Jane) of The Woodlands, Texas, and Robert Todd (Tammie) of Katy, Texas; one sister, Virginia Aker of Carbon; 14 grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Renee, Chad, Tara, Elizabeth, John, Sarah, Michael, Amelia, Graham, Sophia, Maria and Adam; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Steven Floyd; one sister, Betty Linton; one brother, John Fredrick; one grandchild, Josh; and one great-grandchild, Scott Taylor.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Genda Funeral Home, 608 N. Main St., Frankfort, with Pastor Shan Sheridan officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery. Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Evelyn Ilene McClain, 77, 1206 N. Jackson St., Frankfort, IN, died at 9:45 a.m. Aug. 8, 2007, in her home.
